Critical Acclaim: Wine & Spirits Magazine | A zinny scent of tart red fruit leads into this wine’s cranberry and sour plum flavors. There’s fruit in the tannins as well, combining impressions of plum leather and dark edges of earth. This grows on clay derived from volcanic rock, a southwest-facing vineyard at an elevation of 1,500 feet, planted in 1989. —J.G. (600 cases)
Connoiseur's Guide to California Wine | Optimally ripened blackberry fruit is a constant in this juicy, well-focused Zin, and it is joined by a judicious dollop of sweet and slightly creamy oak. A rich and complete, nicely crafted offering with unwavering varietal authority, it is fairly full in body, but it is also quite carefully balanced with good energy and palatal length. Though it is open and tasty now, it is certain to age effortlessly for another four or five years and is, withal, a very well-made Zinfandel that reflects the virtues to be had from a very good vintage.
Tasting Notes: On the nose, inviting aromas of raspberry blend with subtle hints of cinnamon and dried flowers. A rich and concentrated palate unfolds with flavors of blackberry cobbler, star anise, and dark raspberry. Medium tannins and a rich mouthfeel lead to a long-lasting finish.
